Blessing in Peru

Wow...  I cant believe its another Lunes...  haha.  So ya I dont know really a lot I can report on but hey here is a recording about the 5 people that we have to teach that really are worth mentioning at this time.

All I can say is that we are going to have a baptism this Saturday!!!  A young man.  He is super excited and I really feel that he is more excited to be able to help with the Sacrament.

Thats algo that I would like to say...  Dont forget what a blessing it is to have the Priesthood in our lives.  and more than that, Im so grateful to have the Melchezidec Priesthood in my house and pretty much all around me back home.  Here, There are many but I am just sad for all of the others who do not want or are not worthy to hold such a holy authority.  I thought a lot at church.  We have one young man that is active.  16 or 17 years old and only a teacher....  How sad... He could so easily talk with the bishop to be ordained to a priest.  I really am suprised that it is so easy to stop on the line of progression.  dont stop.  Dont ever stop. continue on until the end.

Thats my rambling for the week.  sorry i dont have more to send.  Im going to try to think really hard for things that happened this week to let you know.

LOVE YOU GUYS so much!!!!

My Second Area:  Chimbote

On the week of April 2, 2012, we had not heard from Elder Spencer.  Of course, like a worry wart, I finally emailed Sam's mission President, he responded with:

Dear Sister Hughes,

Elder Spencer is fine, and as a matter of fact I think he is great.
He did receive a transfer to Chimbote yesterday that was not scheduled...and as such I don´t think he had time to write, but we did give him permission to write today.  So I would expect you should receive a message later today.
These unscheduled transfers take place from time to time and I want you to know Elder Spencer´s transfer had nothing to do with his performance as a missionary.  He will be will Elder Aquino in the "Dos de mayo" ward in the Chimbote Stake.

We love you son and it´s a privilege to work with him.  Thank you for your concern.

With kindest regards,

Terry Dean Turk,
Presidente
La Misión Perú Trujillo

Later that day Elder Spencer wrote:

Yes...  I just had an emergency change yesterday.  I left my first area for Chimbote.  2 and a half hours away from Trujillo.  Wow....  I was not expecting that to happen in all honesty...  but its all good.  haha  So now im in Chimbote in a ward called dos de mayo.  its pretty sweet.  Its really nice here in this area and i havent seen like anything yet haha.  We live with the bishop and eat there.  I dont have to walk like 4 blocks to eat haha.  So now im using internet today and it sounds like you all heard that i got transferred.  let me guess, grandma emailing? haha oh nope my mom haha.

Im completely fine.  my comp is Elder Aquino.  He has 13 months in his mission and is really cool. Im really excited to work here.  Its a little low in the numbers but thats ok we will fix that haha.  The ward only has like 30 active members but its still all good.  The only thing haha.  there isnt running water right now.  were supposed to have it in a couple days.  A pipe broke and they had to fix it haha.  its all good.

So conference,  we had a room just for ENGLISH haha.  It was awesome!!!!!!  6 of us sitting on the couches we brought in.  It was almost like we were home, except we werent.  were in Peru.  haha.

So also I had some other things I was going to say but im not exactly sure exactly what.  Sorry....   I know it was about conference.  I really noticed three sections of DyC.  Those were 6, 18, and 121.  Im focusing my study on those for a little while and i would suggest 6 definitely.  I love it.

Well I love you guys and I will talk to you all in 6 days not in 7 haha

Love

Sam

Sam over looking Trujillo

ok the first thing,  I dont think its a good idea to send it directly to the bishops house in all honesty....  the only reason is that to get mail here if I remember right is that they have to go and pick it up.  Idk if it gets delivered to the house or not.  But I will talk with them today about that.  Ill let you all know next week about that.

So this week I hit 7 months!!!! and when im talking to you guys ill be a day short of wait,  8.  Crap no puedo creerlo!

Elder Aquino

I realized all of my problems were myself.  I know that there is definitely stuff that I do wrong but I just need to remember that everyone does stupid things and that we can focus on that or we can focus on what they do good.  Elder Aquino is pretty cool.  Im sending a photo of him.  He is from Lima and has 14 months in his mission.

So ya this ward needs a ton of help.  I wont lie.  Im going to try to help with whatever I can but I do know that everyone has agency.  My only thought really has been, ¨How?¨  How can you know so much and just completely turn from it all.  There is a family that is sealed in the temple and they are all inactive.  I have a hard time understanding how with the knowledge that they have that they can fall into that....  I know without a doubt that everything is true.

So really I cant believe that ive been in my mission for 7 months...  Its crazy in all honesty.  Im really suprised that ive been here this long.  Itll be even crazier when it hits september again...  wow.

Well not much has gone on this week.  Im just starting to know my area a little more and im just gonna start trying to help the members.

Love you guys!

March 24, 2012 Two Baptisms

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had two baptisms on Saturday! A mom and her 16 year old daughter. What a story... =) So to start off, I started teaching her in December before Christmas. She was baptized 3 months later. It was amazing! I am so happy for what happened with them! On Tuesday, they said that they wanted to get baptized but not yet. We had an interview for them on Friday. The part in the recording I forgot was that Paola said no, I gave her a blessing (first ever! SCARY) and then her mom and her talked that night. The thing that will always be in my heart with this was Veronica said to Paola, If Christ were to come here now and ask you to do something, would you say oh ill do it in a week? WOW. She is going to be such a strong member of the Church, I just know it! So to answer grandmas questions, letter was received on 22 of March, I have 198 199 and 200 of soduko, and its completely ok. I understand what your talking about, its hard just talking into a microphone but hey, you get to hear my voice each week. So also, thank you grandma for the letter from Matt! Im happy to know hes still going strong. And I almost started crying with receiving everything this week. Dad, you just know when to send things when I need them. Thank you so much!amo a todos de ustedes muchisimo y les extraño tambien. Buenas suerte esta semana. im gonna try to stay awake this week. oh CONFERENCE! Im excited haha. One of the first times ive been excited for it.Love you allElder Sam Spencer

yet another computer messing up my camera.... oh well....

so how is everyone doing this week? I cant believe its pday already haha. So this week has been... well interesting... we had an investigator drop us. I at first was devistated but later on in the lesson, it was the most powerful thing i ever had happen... I have been like in lessons and for me ive felt the spirit so strong when im bearing testimony. idk its so weird. Its so awesome in all honesty.

so my companion now is a gringo. if you didnt know. we are able to talk in english and we do... alot haha. we are trying when we are out walking to talk in spanish but sometimes we flip to english and comment on peoples responses for us when we come by or when we dont know what to teach we do as well.

This week, we had a Noche Misional which is just a mission night. pretty much for mutual we go to the church and try to have a ton of investigators show up for it. it was a lot of fun. in our lesson in it i got to be the Espiritu Santo or in english, the holy ghost haha. ya that was fun haha.

So today, i decided it was time that i got some movies for p days. I spent 4.50 soles on 3 movies. how to train your dragon, tangled, and kung fu panda 2. haha i need the first one as well but when it hits pdays and we need movies im set. its great that its not against the law here to download stuff and if it was well... just like traffic laws they just dont care.

so idk much of what to write and i dont get much time. i have a letter that im planning on sending that really is like in depth haha its kinda funny thinkin about it. I think we are going to central today so we can probably send it.

I love you guys so much and I cant believe 5 months... man times flying

Love you all!!!!!

My first major rain storm HA HA

haha this is the crazy week. I need time here to write it all. So first off, Monday night we had family home evening with a member that had made sandwiches. we cant eat lettuce. there was lettuce on some of them but not all. we asked which ones didnt have it. it wasnt on the 4 different rolls. so we grabbed those. I took a couple bites and tasted something disgusting. ya it was lettuce. I pulled it off and ate the rest.... badddddddd mistake.... I had diareha or however to spell it for a week. I actually just got better today. Tuesday we ate pizza for Elder Pillajos goodbye. He left and now he is a zone leader. Tuesday night it rained. Now this wasnt normal Peruvian rain. No it was an actual rain storm. And I learned how terrible my roof was that night. It was 2 30 in the morning and Elder Pillajo had turned the light on... way to wake me up from like the crazy dreams of my nights. So he had turned on the light and had flipped his bed up. Water was leaking on his bed. I kinda laughed and rolled over. Next thing I know, My foot and head are getting hit by water... so I flipped my bed up and we both went and slept on the couch. At 6 in the morning i got woken up by water and my stomach... We woke up to the room.... COMPLETELY FLOODED....... it ruined my Preach my Gospel, Predicad mi Evangelio (same thing just spanish) among other stuff. So Wednesday was changes and I got my new companion. Wait for it.... another North American!!! His name is Elder Johnson. He is from Layton and only has 10 months in his mission. But this is the thing with it. I was the one staying in my area. this means yes im running my area. I felt super retarded the little bit with Elder Pillajo but now im getting a lot better at planning and doing a lot. My comp is also district leader again. He is a really hard worker. I like it. hahaSo Thursday we had our meetings for the zone and district. It was fun and that night we had a talent show. I dont have talents so I kinda made a fool of myself. We had a star face hat that I put on. Ya it was fun. So Friday we had interviews with the President. wow the fastest interview ever with him. He told me after i had told him about the room he said we should find a new room. we are thinking about a place right next door to our pension haha wow we are lazy =) So in the interviews i bought a new predicad mi evangelio and 2 hours later, got that soaked... so in 3 days i went through 4 different preach my gospels...So on Sunday I had the opportunity to give a talk in church. with a day warning and of course in spanish. it went alright, It was super short about missionary work. So today this morning, we got to go to Huanchaco and play beach volleyball with another zone, the office missionaries, and President and Hermana Turk and her sisters. Ya I have pictures of course. So that was my week. Im out of time. haha I love you guys so much and Im doing great honestly!!!! LOVE YOU ALLSam
